CMG MI Serves the Community at the San Francisco Food Bank
On Friday, November 20, CMG MIers headed out on a bus to the San Francisco Food Bank, an annual tradition. Every year, the company makes the journey to show its support for families in need and the principle of community volunteerism.
The Food Bank in San Francisco is particularly busy this year, contending with the fallout of the recession. Its help for families facing hunger, through food deliveries to local pantries, soup kitchens, missions and agencies serving the poor, is needed more than ever.
Upon arrival at the Food Bank, CMG MI’s volunteers received a general pep talk from staffer Joanna, who then handed them off to their team leader George. This year, CMG MIers were divided into groups of roughly 5 or 6 and put to work measuring rice into 1-pound bags, sealing the bags, and then packing 15 at a time into a carton.
The measuring required a certain amount of finesse and CMG MI’s numbers experts were quick to develop an experienced eye for exactly how much rice was needed for each bag. In the course of three hours, the CMG MI team packed more than 5,000 bags of rice.
“It was a valuable experience and an eye-opening one,” said Senior Vice President Joe Dillon, who took his first trip to the Food Bank this year with CMG MIers. “The Food Bank makes a real difference for many families throughout San Francisco who have been hit hard by unemployment and cutbacks in services. No one should go hungry, especially during the holidays. I’m proud of CMG MI’s contribution to the Food Bank – this year and every year.”
